RSVP Volunteer Stations in Snohomish County
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) volunteers match their
talent, creativity and wisdom to community needs throughout Snohomish
County. Opportunities exist in Education, Environment, Public Safety,

Below is a listing of sites that are especially
in need of volunteers.

RSVP Reading Corps
Volunteer tutors help teach elementary school children to learn to
read at grade level by the third grade. Tutors are trained by professional
instructors and assigned to assist teachers in the classroom. RSVP
Reading Corps volunteers also mentor youth as Lunch Buddies, Pen Pals,
Playground Mentors and math tutors. Other reading and ESL tutor opportunities
are available in middle schools, high schools and with youth organizations.

· Guardianship
Monitoring Program
Modeled after successful AARP sponsored projects nationwide, the Snohomish
County Superior Court is initiating the Guardianship Monitoring Program to periodically
review court files of guardianships, analyze the financial information
submitted by guardians and make home visits in certain cases. RSVP of Snohomish County is now accepting
inquiries and recruiting volunteers to 1) review files for current
status and statutory requirements; 2) analyze financial reports with
some audit functions; 3) do home visits in selected cases and; 4)
office administration.. WA State Patrol Background check required.

· SHIBA
Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors are volunteers trained
by the WA State Insurance Commissioner's Office to counsel consumers
on a range of senior health insurance options, issues and concerns.

Senior Environment Corps Washington's GOLD - Guarding
Our Local Drinking Water
Trained mentors work with community leaders and their utility district
personnel to develop and implement wellhead protection plans that
conform to health regulations mandated by the WA State Health Department.
Volunteers also provide drinking water simulator demonstrations in
schools and at public events to educate consumers on how to maintain
clean, safe drinking water. RSVP of Snohomish County volunteers receive
basic training from the Evergreen Rural Water Association of Washington.Volunteers
with technical backgrounds, professional leadership skills and/or
a dedicated interest in protecting drinking water sources are encouraged
to participate in the Washington's GOLD Mentoring Project.

Outreach
RSVP Volunteers are trained by Senior Services’ Information
and Assistance staff, to provide the public with information about
resources and services available to seniors, the disabled and their
families. Volunteer Outreach sites exist in stores and malls throughout
Snohomish County, in response to a critical need for more available
access to information services. More volunteers are needed to expand
the program and to add new information sites. To volunteer call Senior

· Adult
Day Health Program
Sponsored by Senior Services of Snohomish County; the Adult Day Health
Program is a special weekday treatment program for older adults who
wish to retain their independence. Supervised by the Adult Day Health
staff, RSVP Volunteers help to improve overall health, morale and
to promote the highest level of independence for the clients. The
Adult Day Health Program is people working together to improve the
quality of life for older adults and prevent premature nursing home
