Caregiver Programs

Family Caregiver Support Program

Caregiving is a stressful and often unrecognized role for many friends and family members of seniors and people with disabilities. The Family Caregiver Support Program helps unpaid caregivers (18+) care for their loved ones while meeting their own mental, physical and emotional needs.

Working with a Family Caregiver Specialist, you will identify areas you’d like help with and learn about the community resources that best fit your particular situation. Caregiver support groups, educational programs, self-care tips, and referrals to community resources are available to decrease your stress and improve self-confidence in your caregiving role.

Support services:

  • Family caregiver programs serving Snohomish County – www.snocare.org
  • Supportive and educational workshops and seminars
  • TCARE screenings and assessments for referrals to respite care and other services

Relatives As Parents Program

The Relatives As Parents program serves kinship caregivers - a grandparent, step-grandparent, or other relative who is related to a child in their fulltime care. Often relative caregivers face immediate financial challenges they have difficulty meeting. This kinship caregiver support program may be able to provide financial help for caregivers to meet short term needs such as rent and utilities, school clothes, groceries, car repairs, and after school activities.

The Relatives as Parents Program also offers support and conversation groups. The groups offer a safe confidential environment where you can bring questions, share your story, gain new insights and build relationships with other caregivers who understand the unique experiences of kinship families.

Lifespan Respite Program

Caregiving can be an all-consuming role for many friends and family members of seniors and people with disabilities.  Lifespan Respite offers vouchers for unpaid caregivers to take a much needed break from the demands of caregiving.

If you are an unpaid caregiver providing 40+ hours per week of care (including supervision, monitoring, meeting personal needs, or direct personal care), you may be eligible for a $1,000 voucher that can be used to pay for respite services with a contracted agency that meets state requirements.

Homage Senior Services offers a list of approved respite options; you, the caregiver, decides which would be best for your loved one. For instance, you might opt for a day health site for a senior while a camp may be best for a special needs child.  You may also suggest other options but they must be services provided by a contracted agency that meets state requirements.

Vouchers must be used within four months. Because there are a limited number of vouchers available, caregivers can only apply once a year. Lifespan Respite Washington is a needs-based program; there are no income limits for caregivers.

Senior Companion Program

Sometimes, all a senior needs is a little help with tasks of daily living to stay in their homes.  Senior Companions assist with chores, such as shopping or paying bills; run errands; provide friendship; and give families and other caregivers a break from their duties.

Do you need a little help? Call 425.879.7050.

Senior Companions are volunteers age 55+ who serve 15 to 40 hours per week helping an average of two to four seniors live independently in their own homes. Volunteers receive orientation, training, mileage, supplemental insurance while on duty, and may even qualify to earn a tax-free hourly stipend.
