WHAT IS NUBASICS 2.0?
NuBasics 2.0 is a liquid meal replacement that is lactose free and can be used by people who cannot digest milk or milk products. Each serving contains 20 grams of protein to help meet the needs for older adults. It tends to be less sweet than other products, which makes it more desirable for many people. If a sweet taste is preferred, several flavorings may be added to enhance the sweetness. Recipes are included in this pamphlet. You should seek the advice of your doctor regarding any health concerns you may have. Be sure to check with your doctor if you have had an unintentional weight loss of more than 10 pounds in the last 6 months.

ELIGIBILITY
To have NuBasics 2.0 delivered to your home from Senior Services of Snohomish County Nutrition Project you must meet the following criteria:
  • age 60 or older
  • homebound and unable to leave home without assistance
  • unable to prepare nutritious meals

COST
A donation of $25 per case (24 cans) is requested. We accept cash, checks, money orders, and food stamps. Your physician will be notified that the product is being provided to you. This will alert him or her of medical and nutritional concerns you have. NuBasics 2.0 is also available to anyone else who needs a liquid meal. We can't deliver, but please call us for more information.

STARTING OUT WITH NUBASICS 2.0
NuBasics 2.0 is a pleasant vanilla flavored drink that is a nutrition powerhouse! To get the most benefit from Nutren, follow these simple tips when first starting out:
  • Start slowly. A period of adjustment may be needed for your body to get used to such a concentrated meal.
  • NuBasics 2.0 is best absorbed if you drink small amounts at frequent times during the day. Be sure to keep the rest refrigerated.
  • If you prefer NuBasics 2.0 at room temperature, pour out the amount you want and refrigerate the rest. If Nutren is already cold, you can let it stand at room temperature to warm up. CAUTION: Do not let it stand for more than 1/2 hour without refrigeration.
  • Remember...NuBasics 2.0 contains 500 calories per can! That's the same amount of calories as in 2 cans of Ensure. If you are eating other foods, you may only need 1/2 - 1 can of NuBasics per day.

NUBASICS 2.0 RECIPES
  • Mocha Mocha Shake
    In a blender container, combine 1 serving NuBasics 2.0, 1 scoop vanilla ice cream, 3 Tbsp chocolate syrup, 1 tsp instant coffee powder and dash cinnamon.
  • Strawberry Shake
    In a blender container, combine 1 serving NuBasics 2.0, 1 scoop vanilla ice cream, and 1/2 cup frozen strawberries (slightly thawed).
  • Chocolate Shake
    In a blender container, combine 1 serving NuBasics 2.0, 2 Tbsp chocolate syrup, and a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream. For a taste treat, add 1/4 banana.
  • Choco-Nutty Shake
    In a blender container, combine 1 serving NuBasics 2.0, 2 Tbsp chocolate syrup, 1 scoop ice cream and 2 Tbsp peanut butter.
  • If desired, ice cream can be omitted from any recipe.
  • Berry-Delicious Shake
    In a blender container, combine 1 serving NuBasics 2.0; 1/4 cup each frozen strawberries and raspberries, slightly thawed; 1/4 medium banana and 1 scoop ice cream.
  • Orange Time Smoothie
    In a blender container, combine 1 serving NuBasics 2.0; 1/4 cup egg substitute, thawed; 1/4 cup frozen orange juice concentrate; 1/4 tsp vanilla.
  • Malt Flavor
    Blend 1 serving NuBasics 2.0 with 1 heaping tsp of malt powder (can be purchased in any grocery store - look in the flavoring section).
  • Butterscotch
    To 1 serving NuBasics 2.0, add 1 tsp butterscotch syrup or 1 Tbsp butterscotch pudding powder. Add a little brown sugar for extra flavor.
  • Eggnog Add 1 Tbsp egg custard mix (available in the pudding section of the grocery store) to NuBasics 2.0 and blend. For extra flavor, add 1/4 tsp vanilla and sprinkle with nutmeg. Note: Do NOT use raw eggs - it could be dangerous!
  • Dry Gelatin To offer a wide variety of fruit flavors, add 1-1/2 tsp of dry gelatin to 1/2 cup NuBasics 2.0 and stir well. If allowed to set in the refrigerator, it may tend to thicken.
  • Fruit Puree In a blender container, combine 1 serving NuBasics 2.0 with 1/4 to 1/2 cup canned or fresh fruit (peaches, berries, pears, bananas, etc.)
  • Extracts Look in the spice section of the grocery store. Add a few drops of your choice - vanilla, almond, lemon, orange.
